Privacy Policy

WeatherWise is developed and maintained by Ihab Hassan as an independent project. This policy explains what data we collect when you use WeatherWise, how it is used, and your rights.
1. Who We Are
WeatherWise is an independent mobile application developed by Ihab Hassan. If you have any questions about this policy, contact us at ai.wise.au@gmail.com.
2. What Data We Collect and Why
Location
- What: Your device’s GPS coordinates (latitude and longitude)
- Why: To fetch the weather forecast for your current location
- When: Only while the app is open in the foreground
- How: Coordinates are sent to our Netlify proxy server, which forwards the request to OpenWeather. Your identity and account information are never included in this request.
- What: Email address and display name — from Google or Apple if you use those providers, or the email address you provide if you sign up directly
- Why: To save your preferences and subscription status across devices and reinstalls
- Provider: Firebase Authentication (Google)
If you use anonymous sign-in (guest mode): a random unique identifier is assigned to your session. No name, email address, or other personal information is collected.
Marketing emails (only with your explicit consent)
- What: If — and only if — you tick the optional “Email me occasional tips & updates” box when creating an account, or turn it on later in Settings → Privacy & Data, we store your email address together with a record of your consent (the date, where you gave it, and the exact wording you agreed to).
- Why: To occasionally send you product tips and updates about WeatherWise.
- Opt-in is genuine: the box is never pre-ticked, and creating an account works exactly the same whether or not you tick it. Guest (anonymous) users are never asked and never have a marketing record.
- Withdrawing consent: You can turn marketing emails off at any time in Settings → Privacy & Data. When you do, we mark your consent as withdrawn and remove your email address from the marketing record — you are not kept on any list.
- Where stored: Your consent record is stored in Firebase (Cloud Firestore) under your account identifier.
Activity preferences
- What: Which activities you have selected and enabled (e.g., running, cycling, walking), their display order, and any custom activities you have added
- Where stored: Locally on your device. This data is not sent to our servers or any third party.
Subscription status
- What: Whether you are subscribed to WeatherWise Premium and your subscription entitlement
- Why: To unlock premium features
- Provider: RevenueCat. RevenueCat receives a pseudonymous user identifier and subscription transaction data from the app store. See RevenueCat’s privacy policy at revenuecat.com/privacy.
AI prompt content (Premium feature)
- What: A short description of your selected activities and the day’s forecast conditions
- Why: To generate personalised activity recommendations
- How: The prompt is sent through our Netlify proxy server to OpenAI. It contains your activity list and weather data — not your name, email address, or any other identifying information.

Our Netlify proxy servers act as intermediaries — they forward requests and return responses but do not log or store your data beyond the immediate transaction.
4. Data Retention
- Firebase Authentication data (email, display name, UID) is retained until you delete your account.
- Activity preferences stored locally on your device are removed when you uninstall the app.
- RevenueCat retains subscription and transaction history as required by their policies and applicable accounting regulations.
- Anonymous accounts: the anonymous Firebase UID persists on-device until you sign out or uninstall the app. No personal information is associated with it.
5. Your Rights
Deleting your account: The app does not currently include an in-app account deletion flow. To request deletion of your Firebase account and associated data, email us at ai.wise.au@gmail.com. We will process your request within 30 days.
Revoking location access: You can revoke the app’s location permission at any time in your device’s Settings. Without location access, the app cannot fetch weather data, but no other functionality is affected.
Using the app without an account: You can use WeatherWise in guest mode (anonymous sign-in) at any time. In guest mode, no personally identifying information is collected.
Withdrawing marketing consent: If you previously opted in to marketing emails, you can withdraw consent at any time in Settings → Privacy & Data. We will mark your consent as withdrawn and remove your email from the marketing record.
6. Children
WeatherWise is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the app, contact us at ai.wise.au@gmail.com and we will promptly delete it.
7. Third-Party Services
WeatherWise uses the following third-party services, each with its own privacy policy:
- Firebase (Google) — firebase.google.com/support/privacy

- OpenAI — openai.com/privacy
- Netlify — netlify.com/privacy
8. Security
All network requests use HTTPS. API keys for OpenWeather and OpenAI are stored server-side in Netlify’s encrypted environment and are never embedded in the app binary. Authentication tokens are managed by the Firebase SDK.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top will always reflect the most recent revision. For material changes that affect how your data is used, we may display a notice within the app.
